I recently started listening to a new podcast called Autocracy in America that I want to recommend. It’s a five-part series that looks at authoritarian tactics already in use here in the United States.
The podcast is hosted by Anne Applebaum, staff writer at The Atlantic and author of Autocracy Inc. and Peter Pomerantsev, a fellow at the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University and author of Nothing Is True and Everything is Possible. (Book title links point to my reviews.)

Even before the events at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, many people worried about autocratic threats to American democracy. This podcast is a timely reminder that democracies fail if people don’t act to preserve them. The first step is recognizing the symptoms.
