Nonfiction November 2025 Week 1: Your Year in Nonfiction

It’s time once again for Nonfiction November, an annual celebration by and for nonfiction book bloggers, and anyone else who’d like to drop by. There are five weekly topics, each hosted by a different blogger.

Heather @ Based on a True Story is hosting the first week’s topic:

Celebrate your year of nonfiction. What books have you read? What were your favorites? Have you had a favorite topic? Is there a topic you want to read about more?  What are you hoping to get out of participating in Nonfiction November?

In the past 12 months, I’ve read 14 nonfiction books. Here’s how they break down by category. (Click on the images to read my reviews.)

Environment and Nature

Politics

History

Science and Technology

I put Nexus into Science and Technology although it could just as easily fit into History or Politics.

Personal Development

My favorites so far this year have been On Freedom and Is A River Alive?

On Freedom is just so pertinent these days, especially here in the US. It’s a philosophical and political deep dive into this over-used yet poorly-understood idea.

Is A River Alive? combines outstanding writing with a whole new way of understanding the environment. It’s a wonderful book.

I’m looking forward to learning about what books my felllow bloggers have been reading in the past year, which books they found inspiring, which ones triggered new ways of seeing some part of the world.

Thanks for reading.

Love this introspection- otherwise the books fly too fast. Will definitely read your faves- On Freedom and Is A River Alive. Curious what you thought of Nexus. Thanks for this blog. I really enjoy it.

  2. I really want to read a Robert Macfarlane book sometime soon. I think I have one in a box in my mum’s cellar, so when I finally pull my books out of there I’ll have to read it (or maybe find one from the library…)

I had not heard of ‘The Trees Are Speaking’. That one sounds really interesting (and has a great cover!). Your year’s book categories a fun to click through. Thanks!

First time visitor to your blog….looking at NF lists everybody is posting. I was searching for a book about AI (artifical intelligence) and stumbled upon Mustafa Suleyman’s book here! I’m going to put on my TBR 2026.
